Orthopaedics

The Department of Orthopaedics at St. Stephen’s Hospital is a high-volume centre providing quality treatment for the full spectrum of musculoskeletal disorders across all age groups. From everyday aches and sports injuries to complex fractures, arthritis, and joint replacement, our team combines surgical expertise with a strong emphasis on restoring movement and independence.

Bone and joint problems can quietly take away the things that matter most – walking without pain, climbing stairs, sleeping through the night. Our approach is to treat the patient, not just the X-ray: to use surgery when it genuinely helps, to lean on non-surgical care where it works, and to pair every operation with proper rehabilitation.

Conditions we treat

  • Fractures and bone injuries
  • Osteoarthritis of the knee, hip, and other joints
  • Rheumatoid and other inflammatory arthritis (with Rheumatology support)
  • Sports injuries - ligament, cartilage, and tendon
  • Back and neck pain
  • Frozen shoulder and shoulder disorders
  • Osteoporosis and fragility fractures
  • Bone and joint infections
  • Congenital and childhood orthopaedic conditions
  • Bone tumours (diagnosis and care coordination)

Trauma and fracture care

  • Fracture management: From simple casting to surgical fixation of complex fractures.
  • Trauma surgery: For road-traffic and other major injuries, with emergency cover.

Joint and reconstructive surgery

  • Total knee replacement: For advanced knee arthritis affecting daily life.
  • Total hip replacement: For hip arthritis and certain hip fractures.
  • Arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery: For knee and shoulder ligament and cartilage problems.
