Gastroenterology & Hepatology

Our Gastroenterology & Hepatology team cares for the full digestive system – the oesophagus, stomach, intestines, liver, gallbladder, and pancreas through a combined team of gastroenterologists, hepatologists, and internal medicine specialists, backed by a modern endoscopy unit and non-invasive liver imaging.

Digestive and liver symptoms are common, and most are minor but some are early warning signs that shouldn’t be dismissed. Our approach is to tell the difference reliably: reassuring when that’s the right call, investigating properly when it isn’t, and never over-treating.

Conditions We Treat

Digestive Conditions

  • Acidity, reflux (GERD), and indigestion
  • Stomach and duodenal ulcers
  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • Inflammatory bowel disease — Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis
  • Gallstones and biliary tract disorders
  • Pancreatitis
  • Chronic constipation and diarrhoea
  • Gastrointestinal bleeding
  • Colon polyps and colon cancer screening

Liver Conditions

  • Viral hepatitis (A, B, C, D, E)

  • Cirrhosis and its complications (ascites, varices, encephalopathy)
  • Autoimmune liver diseases
  • Jaundice
  • Drug-induced liver injury
  • Liver tumours — benign and malignant
  • Inherited liver conditions — Wilson's disease, haemochromatosis, and others

Our Services

Endoscopy Services

  • Upper GI endoscopy — examination of the food pipe, stomach, and duodenum

  • Long-term IBD management for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis
  • Evidence-based reflux and ulcer treatment with lifestyle guidance
  • Structured IBS care
  • Colon cancer screening for those at risk

  • Viral hepatitis screening — HBsAg, Anti-HCV, and confirmatory tests
  • Ultrasound and FibroScan — non-invasive assessment of liver structure and stiffness
  • CT and MRI imaging for tumours, vascular disease, and biliary tract problems
  • Liver biopsy where imaging and blood tests aren't enough

Liver Treatment

  • Guideline-based antiviral treatment for Hepatitis B and C, with regular monitoring
  • Structured lifestyle, diet, and medical plans for fatty liver
  • Long-term cirrhosis monitoring and complication management

Frequently Asked Questions

Is fatty liver serious?

Fatty liver is common and often reversible in its early stages, but left unchecked it can progress to inflammation, fibrosis, and eventually cirrhosis. Early diagnosis and lifestyle change are the most effective response.

Can Hepatitis B be cured?

Hepatitis B can be effectively controlled with antiviral treatment, letting many patients lead full, normal lives, though a complete cure isn’t yet routine. Hepatitis C, by contrast, is now curable in most cases with a short course of oral medication.

Do I need a liver biopsy?

Not always. Modern non-invasive tests like FibroScan and blood-based markers have reduced the need for biopsy, which is recommended only when it will meaningfully change the treatment plan.

My liver function test is abnormal but I have no symptoms - should I be worried?

An abnormal result doesn’t always mean serious disease, but it shouldn’t be ignored — a proper assessment will clarify what it actually means for you.
