The Department of Pulmonology at St. Stephen’s Hospital diagnoses and treats diseases of the lungs and respiratory system. From everyday conditions like asthma and recurrent bronchitis to complex problems like interstitial lung disease, sleep apnoea, and lung cancer — our team brings together careful clinical assessment, modern diagnostic equipment, and long experience treating respiratory disease in north India.
Delhi’s air quality is one of the worst in the world. We see the consequences in our OPD every day. Our work is to help patients live well in this environment — with the right diagnosis, the right treatment, and a plan that fits real life.
Loud snoring with daytime tiredness, morning headache, or witnessed pauses in breathing is a strong sign. A sleep study is the only definitive way to diagnose sleep apnoea — and it is a treatable condition that, left alone, raises your risk of heart attack and stroke.
A cough lasting more than 3 weeks should always be investigated. TB is one of several possible causes, but so are asthma, post-infectious cough, acid reflux, and others. A pulmonologist will work through it systematically.
Long-term exposure to high levels of PM2.5 is now well established as a cause of asthma, COPD, lung cancer, and worsened heart disease. The risk is real — but so are the steps that meaningfully reduce it, which we discuss with patients individually.
