Cardiology

The Department of Cardiology at St. Stephen’s Hospital provides complete care for diseases of the heart, with a focus on prevention, early recognition, and timely treatment. Our team manages everything from routine blood pressure and cholesterol concerns to chest pain, heart attack, heart failure, and rhythm disorders, supported by a modern cardiac catheterisation laboratory and round-the-clock emergency cover.

Heart disease in India tends to strike earlier than in much of the world. Our work is to catch risk early, explain your numbers in plain language, and act quickly when it matters. Where a patient needs surgery, we coordinate directly with our on-site Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery team – so your care stays under one roof.

Conditions we treat

  • Coronary artery disease and angina (chest pain)
  • Heart attack (myocardial infarction)
  • Heart failure
  • High blood pressure (hypertension)
  • Arrhythmias — irregular or abnormal heart rhythms
  • Valvular heart disease
  • Congenital heart disease in adults
  • High cholesterol and other cardiac risk factors
  • Cardiomyopathy (diseases of the heart muscle)
  • Pre-operative cardiac assessment for non-cardiac surgery

Services and procedures

Diagnostic services

  • ECG and echocardiography: first-line tests to assess heart rhythm, structure, and pumping function.
  • Treadmill test (TMT): stress testing to detect blocked arteries and assess exercise tolerance.
  • Holter and ambulatory BP monitoring: continuous monitoring to catch intermittent rhythm or pressure problems.
  • Coronary angiography: imaging of the heart's arteries to locate and grade blockages.

Treatment and interventional services

  • Coronary angioplasty and stenting: opening blocked arteries through a small wrist or groin puncture.
  • Primary angioplasty for heart attack: emergency artery-opening to limit heart muscle damage.
  • Pacemaker implantation: for slow or unreliable heart rhythms.
  • Heart failure management: medication optimisation, monitoring, and lifestyle support.
  • Preventive cardiology: structured risk assessment and management for those with a family history or risk factors.
